Good-bye to a good one

Dear Editor:
The Vail Valley has lost a favorite son, and the Roaring Fork Valley a dynamic businessman and trusted friend. Gerald Gallegos' largesse benefited numerous organizations in the Roaring Fork Valley and touched the lives of thousands.

Vail Daily Letter: Testament to Gallegos

On behalf of the Youth Foundation Board of Directors, our staff, and the thousands of children in our programs over the years that Gerald Gallegos helped along, I want to express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for all he did for the children in our valley.

Vail Daily's View: Gerald Gallegos built community

Gerald Gallegos was a bridge and a mountain.

He bridged Vail today to an era before Vail existed. He bridged rich and poor, Hispanic and Anglo cultures, small
business and large.

And he was a mountain in philanthropic instinct — particularly when it came to children.

Most of all, he might have been as good a model as could be found in America for how to live properly.

Vail Daily letter: A successful life

After attending Gerald Gallegos' memorial service, I went home and thought about what is a successful life?

Vail Daily letter: Tribute to Gerald

I settled in the Vail Valley in 1971 and met a fun-loving, albeit sometimes intimidating, guy named Gerald Gallegos. For whatever reason, a friendship that started at the Nu Gnu nightclub on Gore Creek Drive survived almost 40 years.

Mr. Gerald Gallegos and The First Tee of Eagle County

During the late 1990’s the Beaver Creek and Vail resorts experienced a tremendous amount of
growth. In 1997 Gerald Gallegos, along with other local business men and women, were
concerned about the welfare of many of the service workers and their families. These hard
working families, living paycheck to paycheck, were finding employment in lower paying jobs -
the kind of jobs that resort guests and vacationers never saw, but were critical to keeping the
local economy moving. It was clear that there was a growing "opportunity gap" between the
community's families. The one common area for equal opportunity for all families was education,
still there was a tremendous gap is this area as well. Mr. Gallegos along with other successful
individuals founded The Youth Foundation and each dedicated themselves to aiding
disadvantaged and at-risk youth throughout Eagle County.

Not quite rags to riches -- but close

The life of Gerald Gallegos was not quite rags to riches, but it was close. Gallegos, who founded one what has become one of the nation’s largest masonry companies, died last week in Denver. Services will be held at Vail’s Ford Amphitheater on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m.

Building a business, and a community, in the Vail Valley
Gerald Gallegos to be honored at Vail memorial service

VAIL, Colorado — More than a thousand of Gerald Gallegos' closest friends got together Saturday to swap stories.

Mostly stories about him and what he gave to the community, which would have made him uncomfortable because he didn't really want people to know about that sort of stuff.

He loved people, and they loved him right back. Gerald's life is what it looks like when you get it right.

Vail Daily letter: Outpouring of support for Gallegos family

This past week has been sad and challenging for everyone at The Gallegos Corp. When Gerald passed away, we were shocked by the loss. However, the amazing outpouring of support from everyone in the community helped us realize just how lucky we were to have had Gerald in our lives, and see how many people he touched, helped, influenced, laughed with (and at) over his life.
